Frequently asked questions

General Information & Applications

  • EAGxNordics 2026 is an Effective Altruism conference organised by the Nordic and Baltic EA communities. It features three days of networking, talks, and workshops.

EAG(x) conferences are a great way to connect with people in the EA community, discover new opportunities, and learn more about the community, various projects, and cause areas.

The conference will take place from Friday 24 April to Sunday 26 April in Stockholm, Sweden, at House of People (Barnhusgatan 12-14, 111 23 Stockholm).

  • EAGxNordics 2026 is for people who want to turn good intentions into practical outcomes.

We welcome attendees who are familiar with core ideas of effective altruism. We’re also excited to see applications from professionals working in impactful fields who may be newer to EA and curious about how these ideas could support their work.

EAGxNordics 2026 focuses on the Nordic and Baltic regions and welcomes the broader European community, but we are committed to building a diverse environment and encourage attendees from around the world to apply.

If you want to attend but are unsure about whether to apply, please err on the side of applying!

You must be 18 or older to attend due to our insurance policy. You can bring a toddler with you; if you plan to, please inform us by sending an email to nordics@eaglobalx.org.

  • Applications are open! While submitting earlier is strongly encouraged, please make sure to submit your application by 7 April.

The application process consists of three stages:

    • You complete the application form. You will be prompted to log into your effectivealtruism.org account; if you don't have an existing account, you can easily create one. We will ask you questions about your interests and your engagement with effective altruism. We invite you to be as specific and detailed as possible in your answers, favouring content over form.

    • Our team reviews your application. While it might take longer in busy periods, we aim to be in touch about your application within 2 weeks, regardless of the outcome.

    • You register for the conference. If you’ve been accepted, you will receive an email with a link to register. This step is essential to secure your place at the conference. At this stage, you will be asked about dietary requirements and additional logistical details. Also, you will have the option of donating to offset event costs.

Have questions? Email us at nordics@eaglobalx.org. If you want to attend but are unsure whether this event is for you, please apply anyway!

  • When registering, we suggest a donation of at least £80 for most attendees to help offset the conference costs, but there are options to contribute more or less based on your own ability.

  • To cancel your ticket, please complete the following steps:

    • Log in to your EA Global account and go to the 'My Event Registrations' tab.

    • Navigate to the relevant EA Global event and click 'Manage'. This will open your registration record.

    • To the right of your registration record, you will see a small form titled, 'No Longer Interested in Attending?'

    • Please fill this out and click, 'Request Registration Cancellation'.

  • We will have a limited amount of funding available to support attendees with travel grants, which you can request while submitting your application. This is meant for attendees who cannot attend the event without support. Please only apply for a travel grant if you cannot attend without it.

You can read more in our Travel Support Policydocument.

  • Attendees must book and pay for their own accommodation.

Accomodation suggestions and discount codes will be provided.

  • The venue is within walking distance of Stockholm Central Station (T-Centralen), which is easily accessible from a number of neighbourhoods and offers good connections.

Travel & Accommodation

  • Here are some concrete steps you can take to prepare for the conference itself:

    • Make a list of your priorities – what you’d like to get out of the conference

    • Make a plan of action based on those priorities

    • Follow the instructions in the emails you’re getting and make yourself a profile on Swapcard (our event app)

    • Look through other people’s profiles and connect with those you’d like to meet with or who share your interests

    • Look through sessions on the agenda and register for the ones you’d like to attend (and bookmark the ones you’re interested in but which you’re less sure about)

    • Be realistic - plan in adequate time to rest, refuel and to have spontaneous conversations

    • Read Forum posts tagged “effective altruism conferences” for lots more tips on how to get the most out of attending a conference!

  • Swapcard is the app we use for our events. Attendees use it to:

    • Look at the agenda and register for the content sessions they’d like to attend

    • Make a profile to help you connect with other attendees – you can say what you do, what you’re interested in talking about, what ideas or expertise you can give others, and how to contact you

    • Request 1-1 or small group meetings with other attendees – choose the people, the time, and the meeting point

    • — Send messages to coordinate with other attendees, during and after the conference

    • Find key information about the event, such as the attendee guide, map, wifi, jobs board, or what time food is being served

Once your application has been accepted to the conference, you'll be given access to the event Swapcard page a few weeks before the event.

Preparing for the Event

  • Volunteers are crucial to the success of the event! You can apply to volunteer in the application form. This will not affect the admission criteria.

Volunteers help the conference run smoothly in a variety of ways, such as liaising with speakers, welcoming attendees, managing the content rooms, and helping attendees navigate the venue.

Before EAGxNordics, volunteers are asked to do one remote and one in-person pre-event training session. During the event, volunteers generally work up to 8 hours. Besides these time commitments, volunteers participate in the conference as all attendees do. For this reason, we require volunteers to be accepted to the conference as an attendee before they can join the volunteer team.

We think volunteering is particularly useful for:

    • Attendees who want to test their operations or event-running skills

    • Attendees who would like to help ensure the conference is a success

    • First-time attendees who don’t expect to be completely booked with meetings

    • Attendees who would like to meet other volunteers or work with the organising team

  • Volunteers should expect to arrive at the venue around 12:00 on Friday April 24 for training. More detailed information will be sent to them by the Volunteer Lead.
